Program Manager, Clinical Research Policy

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is committed to advancing the science on drug use and addiction and applying that knowledge to improve individual and public health. To achieve this goal, the Division of Extramural Research (DER) within NIDA provides management and oversight on the development, implementation, and coordination of NIDA’s extramural programs, policies, reviews, and operations planning. DER is seeking exceptional candidates for multiple positions, including:

Program Manager, Clinical Research Policy | GS 12/13/14 (HSPA or HSA PO or SRO) 

The NIH Clinical Trials policies that went into effect in 2016 require Institute wide oversight and coordination of resources, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and guidance on the sound conduct and management of clinical research. These efforts have been led by the Deputy Director, DER. This is a new position to provide support for updating and maintaining Clinical Trials SOPs, subject matter expertise for NIDA staff and the extramural research community, work with NIDA IT staff to identify and implement technological solutions to support these efforts and develop a database for tracking and reporting compliance. In addition, the incumbent will help develop briefings, resources, education, and training materials to assist NIDA staff overseeing clinical research-related projects with a focus on clinical trials. The candidate should have expertise and experience in clinical research and clinical trials including human subject research regulations, NIH Clinical Trial Stewardship policies, and have strong collaborative, organizational, and communication skills.  Experience in conducting or managing clinical trials, as well as a solid working knowledge of the NIH grants system and the roles of NIH staff in the process is beneficial.
