Scientific Review Officer

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is committed to advancing the science on drug use and addiction and applying that knowledge to improve individual and public health. To achieve this goal, the Division of Extramural Research (DER) within NIDA provides management and oversight on the development, implementation, and coordination of NIDA’s extramural programs, policies, reviews, and operations planning. DER is seeking exceptional candidates for multiple positions, including:

Scientific Review Officer | GS 12/13/14 (2 positions to fill--HSA SRO)

DER’s Scientific Review Branch (SRB) is seeking two (2) candidates to join an experienced and collaborative team of SROs. SRB conducts the initial evaluation for scientific and technical merit of applications and proposals for funding through grants, cooperative agreements and contracts assigned to NIDA. Utilizing scientific knowledge and expertise, SROs manage a portfolio of review assignments that vary over time. SROs gain broad experience across a number of Activity Codes and mechanisms and, as the Federal official and agency representative guiding the activities of a review committee, the SROs orient new review members and ensure continuity in their approach toward evaluating applications and proposals, as well as adherence to peer review policies and procedures. SROs participate in Branch, Division, and Institute staff meetings. In addition, when appropriate, SROs are afforded opportunities to participate on trans-NIDA and trans-NIH committees and working groups. Candidates with a background in basic biology disciplines, clinical, translational, and/or behavioral sciences within the scientific mission of NIDA are encouraged to apply.
