The essential characteristics of the Grapevine Front End amplifiers and associated cables that limit the availability to a sole source are their full compatibility with the existing Grapevine system that currently supports 320 recording channels. Grapevine system can furnish the requirements, to the exclusion of other sources, because the recording system is a highly integrated and proprietary.
The Laboratory of Neuropsychology studies relationships between brain and behavior during cognitive tasks. The requested equipment is used to study these relationships during learning and decision making in nonhuman primates. Currently, we can make such recordings in three laboratory rooms. Of the three rooms, one has a capacity for 320 recording channels. We need to expand this capability to 512 channels to accommodate new, more efficient electrode technologies. The only economical approach is to buy additional channels (amplifiers) for the existing system. The purchase is for these extra channels along with appropriate cables. Once the upgrade is complete, the studies will investigate the neuronal substrates of key behaviors often linked to both normal development and major neuropsyciatric disorders, central to the mission of the Mental Health institute.
The material must be compatible in all aspects (form, fit, and function) with existing systems presently installed. The new item/service must coordinate, connect, or interface with the existing parts to create a complete operational system by direct connection with existing components.
