Background/Description of Requirement

Statement of Need and Purpose:

The Neuropathology Unit seeks to purchase a Leica Microsystems DM2500 LED Microscope and Associated Components (or equal) (Equipment), which it will use to visualize and capture slide images from routine diagnostics and experimental stains. The Equipment purchase will include delivery and installation on-site.

Background Information and Objective:

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NINDS is 1 of 27 NIH Institutes and Centers. The NINDS’s mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease for all people.

The Neuropathology Unit's core function is to conduct research to help diagnose, maintain records, and further molecular characterization efforts related to brain cancer and other neurological diseases. To continue these efforts, the Neuropathology Unit requires an ergonometric, fluorescence, LED, phase-contract microscope, camera and associated components for visualizing stains on glass slides.
