The purpose of this acquisition is to obtain a Leica CM1860 cryostat or equal which will be used by the NINDS Laboratory of Viral Immunology and Intravital Imaging (VIIIS) to cut tissue sections for mission critical experiments. The VIIIS currently has the Leica CM1850 model of cryostat, which has reached its end-of-life. To ensure standardization of research data and continuity with all previous lines of experimentation, the VIIIS needs to trade-in the CM1850 and purchase the next model of cryostat (CM1860) from Leica or equal.
