The Laboratory of Assay Development & Screening Technology (ADST) of Pre-Clinical Innovation Division at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) requires the purchase of a Bioruptor sonication device. The device will be used for Next Generation Sequencing DNA shearing, RNA shearing, cell and tissue disruption for protein extraction, specifically for C. elegans, as well as other purposes.
To establish and move cell and model organism technologies forward through a more centralized effort, the Bioruptor device consists of a high-power ultrasound generating element which is located below a sonication bath, without any contact to the sample, unlike probe sonication which requires probe insertion into sample. It uses a highly-controlled ultrasonic energy with Adaptive Cavitation Technology (ACT) to accurately achieve random and unbiased shearing for different fragment lengths from 150 bp to 1 kb. The gentle ultrasound and a cooling system providing isothermal processing preserves the integrity of biological samples and ensures high sample recovery.
Purpose and Objectives: The purpose of this acquisition is to acquire one (1) complete set of Bioruptor® Pico sonication device or Equal that meet all salient characteristics.
The salient physical, functional, or performance characteristics that “equal” products must meet are specified in the purchase description below.
Purchase Description: Bioruptor® Pico sonication device or Equal
Salient characteristics: The following salient characteristics are necessary for the requested sonication device:
- Shearing system optimized for micro-volumes up to 2ml
- Built-in water-based cooling system
- Simultaneous sonication of 6 to16 samples
- Temperature control
- Sonication bath-based rotor
- Proven capability to lysis C. elegans
