ThermoFisher Scientific is the only company that provies this software.
Please see more detailed description below to why we wish to have this particular software.
1) It is able to analyze data collected by cryo-EM tomography techniques on in vitro-assembled microtubules or whole cells.
2) It is able to identify and track various-sized objects in cells. Multi-scale dynamic processes require tracking of various sized objects, from diffraction-limited particles to entire cells.
3) It enables scientists to reconstruct filamentous networks and edit the resulting graphs to remove image features erroneously identified as filaments or to add missing parts of a network.
4) Graphs of filaments can then be quantified by measuring parameters such as amount, length, thickness, orientation, ranks, etc.
5) Compelling 3D renderings can be created from the reconstructed model and the computed parameters

Background/Description of Requirement

The mission of the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit at NINDS is to determine the structure and mechanism of proteins that regulate the cytoskeleton with involvement in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. The collection of cryo-EM data and then its thorough analysis using Amira software is the only way to obtain structural information on assembly and behavior of the microtubule cytoskeleton, its essential regulators. The insights that will be obtained because of this data analysis will be used to understand the role of microtubule reguletion in health and disease.
