Single-Sole Source Determination
Vidrio’s ScanImage is the most widely used software for controlling custom-built two photon microscopes due to the hardware-agnostic coding strategy, the highly exposed nature of the underlying code, and frequent updates to incorporate additional hardware capabilities and support continual innovations in two photon imaging. There is not a comparable alternative currently available. Vidrio’s vDAQ data acquisition system provides sufficient analog and digital inputs and outputs to control an entire dual-site microscope and all associated scan mirrors, shutters, PMTs, amplifiers, spatial light modulators, and optical modulators via a single hardware card. The same capabilities through other alternative systems would cost significantly more, consume much more power, and occupy much more physical space.
Background/Description of Requirement

The data acquisition hardware and software are critical to performing in vivo imaging using custom-built multi-site microscopes, and thus central to executing the funded research plan of interrogating circuit computations and communication between the neocortex and cerebellum.
