Single-Sole Source Determination
Thorlabs is the primary provider of optomechanics like kinematic mounts, optical cage systems, and optical breadboards, and is also a principal producer of related optical components like filters, mirrors, lenses, photomultiplier tube transimpedance amplifiers, laser power meters, and laser shutters. In nearly every case where a comparable component is available from primary competitors Newport or Edmund Optics, these components are substantially less expensive and often on significantly shorter lead times, without major differences in performance characteristics
Background/Description of Requirement

A major goal of the research performed by the lab is to understand communication between the neocortex and cerebellum while animals learn novel behavioral skills over weeks. The lab measures activity in both cortex and cerebellum simultaneously using a custom dual-site two-photon microscope, across multiple genetically defined populations using dual-wavelength two-color imaging, and by combining imaging of one neural population with stimulation of another. Essential comopnents of this are the optical elements needed for laser beam steering, including kinematic mirror mounts, optical cage components, optical filters, half wave plates, polarizing beamsplitter cubes, mirrors, lenses, and laser shutters, as well as related emission path components including photomultiplier tube transimpedance amplifiers, and laser alignment tools including a laser power meter.
