Single-Sole Source Determination
This network analyzer (NA) E5072A meets specification to test Rx hardware in the frequency range corresponding to the MRI systems located at the NMR center; and presents an extended dynamic range to characterize power devices used in the MRI Tx chain. I have received 3 quotes, one directly from the manufacturer and 2 other quotes from authorized vendors. Brand name is required since it makes the device compatible with our calibration kits and other accessories, we have in the RF laboratory from same manufacturer.
Background/Description of Requirement

This equipment will be used by LFMI research staff working in the design and optimization of high frequency Rx and Tx electronics for MRI scanners. This is an essential equipement for testing and performance assessment of RF hardware. The MRI Engineering core, LFMI, NINDS is developing RF hardware for ultra-high field MRI (so far up to 11.7T for humans and 17.6 T for animal research). Moving to these higher fields demands higher frequency of operation (closer to 1 GHz) for Rx and Tx electronics. This RF probe has the required bandwith to measured accurately differential signals with frequencies up to 10 GHz to assess performance of our circuits operating at the highest expected fundamental frequency (for our MRI systems fmax ~<1 GHz) and its harmonics.
