Single-Sole Source Determination
Thorlabs is the only source available that can meet NINDS’ needs for the present fast beam modulators. The NINDS requires fast optical beam modulators to control the laser power into a dual site two photon microscope for simultaneous multi-color two photon imaging. Thorlabs is the only vendor that can provide all of these components to simultaneously meet.
Background/Description of Requirement

A major goal of the research performed by the lab is to understand communication between the neocortex and cerebellum while animals learn novel behavioral skills over weeks. The lab measures activity in both cortex and cerebellum using a custom dual-site two-photo microscope, across multiple genetically defined populations using dual-wavelength two-color imaging, and by combing imaging of one neural population with stimulation of another. Essential components of this fast laser beam modulators.
