Statement of Need and Purpose: The cortex-cerebellum circuitry lab needs two fast laser beam power modulators to add laser paths to a dual-site two photon microscope. The components enable high speed laser power modulation with minimal power loss and high rejection, which are key when delivering multiple laser beams into the brain at once to study the interactions between brain cell types and regions.
Background Information and Objective: A major goal of the research performed by the lab is to understand communication between the neocortex and cerebellum while animals learn novel behavioral skills over weeks. The lab measures activity in both cortex and cerebellum simultaneously using a custom dual-site two-photon microscope, across multiple genetically defined populations using dual-wavelength two-color imaging, and by combining imaging of one neural population with stimulation of another. Essential components of this fast laser beam modulators.
