Rationale/ Salient Characteristics
Leica confocal microscope stellaris 8 is a highly used shared research equipment for multiple NINDS research groups, the proper maintenance and timely and efficient service is critical for the research conducted at NINDS. Only a certified trained original equipment manufacture trained technician will be able to trouble shoot and provide repair/maintenance of the equipment. Any third party service will void warranty.
Single-Sole Source Determination
Leica Microsystem is the only vendor that can provide the preventative maintenance of the stellaris 8 with certified trained technician that can perform the service necessary to bring the equipment to optimal condition. Any deviation or third party service will void warranty.

STATEMENT OF WORK (SERVICES)

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Title of Project:

Preventative Maintenance and Service Agreement for Leica Stellaris 8 Confocal microscopy system

Statement of Need and Purpose:

The Leica Stellaris 8 Confocal microscopy system is utilized routinely by the Ngai lab members and requires routine preventative maintenance. This contract is required in order to maintain this research equipment in operable condition.  Therefore, this service contract is required.

 

Background Information and Objective:

The Leica Stellaris 8 Confocal microscopy system provides state of the art imaging capabilities that are required for the investigations ongoing in the NINDS Molecular Neurobiology Section, Ngai laboratory. The system requires routine preventative maintenance. The comprehensive one-year warranty will expire on April 28, 2023. This contract will ensure minimal downtime due to hardware and/or software malfunction. Additionally, the contract is required in order to maintain this research equipment in operable condition and prevent costly repairs.

Period of Performance:

The period of performance is one 9-month period.

 

Proposed period of performance: 05/22/2023 – 01/29/2024

 

SCOPE OF WORK

General Requirements:

Leica Microsystems will provide a qualified factory trained technician to provide maintenance as needed on the laboratory’s Leica Stellaris 8 Confocal microscopy system. This work specified in the Leica Service Contract Agreement, includes parts, labor, travel, and on-site service maintenance. Additionally, software updates and access to software technical experts are available to assist.

 

Specific Requirements:

Service shall be performed by a factory trained Field Service representative. Service shall consist of, but not limited to, examination of all functioning parts, replacement, or repair of worn or unserviceable parts, adjustment and calibration made with the expressed intent of maintaining the instrument to the manufacturer’s original specifications. When necessary, this includes complete dismantling, parts replacement, reassembly, and thorough testing and adjusting.

 

LEVEL OF EFFORT:

Service shall be performed by a factory trained Field Service representative.

 

 

GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Service shall be performed at The Porter Neuroscience Research building, Room 2B-307, 35 Convent Drive, Bethesda MD 20852.

All parts and service shall be performed at The Porter Neuroscience Research building, Room 2B-307, 35 Convent Drive, Bethesda MD 20852.

 

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

Service shall be performed by a factory trained Field Service representative which is required to report to the Scientific Laboratory Manager.

 

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Travel:

Service shall be performed at The Porter Neuroscience Research building, Room 2B-307, 35 Convent Drive, Bethesda MD 20852. Travel costs are included in the service contract.

Service shall be performed by a factory trained Field Service representative.
