Rationale/ Salient Characteristics
The salient characteristics of the Y-Stage must have travel minimum of 25mm, load accuracy (max) of 24um, repeatability (max) of <1um, max centered load (must be at least this high) - 30N, max cantilever load (must be at least this high) - 125Ncm, weight (max) of 0.132kg, dimension (max) - 20.3 x 96.3 x 15 mm, and lead time max of 2 weeks.

The salient characteristics of the X-Z stage must have travel minimum of 75mm, load accuracy (max) of 13um, repeatability (max) of <3um, max centered load (must be at least this high) - 1000N, max cantilever load (must be at least this high) - 3000Ncm, weight (max) of 2.45kg, dimension (max) - 181 x 210 x 42 mm, and lead time max of 2 weeks.
Single-Sole Source Determination
After market research was conducted, there were no other motorized stages that meets salient characteristics. An MRAS PMR was conducted thru GSA and they were not able to find similar items that meet the researcher's requirement.
Background/Description of Requirement

The cortex-cerebellum circuitry lab requires a motorized 3D translation stage to perform dual-site brain imaging. A major goal of the research performed by the lab is to understand communication between the neocortex and cerebellum while animals learn novel behavioral skills over weeks. The  lab will measure activity in both cortex and cerebellum using a custom dual-site two-photon microscope, across multiple genetically defined populations using dual-wavelength imaging. To flexibly position the microscope heads at different brain regions, a motorized 3D translation stage is needed which consists of two long-travel high-load motorized stage for X-Z and one small-format  motorized stage for Y, plus required accessories.
