Brazilian Researcher Receives Inciardi Award

The James Inciardi Award for Young Investigators provides air travel to a scientific meeting for a young investigator from the Center for Drug and Alcohol Research at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Marcelo Rossoni, a psychologist and master’s degree candidate, will present his poster at the 2019 International Council on Alcohol, Drugs, and Traffic Safety (ICADTS) conference. He was selected for his study of the association between profiles of cell phone use, driving under the influence, and other risk behaviors in five Brazilian capitals. Kathryn Stewart, ICADTS past president, chaired the selection committee. The other committee members were J. Ignacio Nazif-Muñoz, Ph.D., Harvard, and Raquel B. DeBoni, M.D., Ph.D., Fundação Oswaldo Cruz/ (Fiocruz), Brazil. The award was established in 2015 through an annual donation from Dr. Catia Olivier Mello and the Brazilian center’s director, 1993–1994 NIDA Humphrey fellow Flavio Pechansky, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Mello and Dr. Pechansky created the award in memory of the late James A. Inciardi, Ph.D., University of Delaware.
