NIDA and the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) invite the international drug use research community to participate in National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week® (NDAFW), March 22 to 28, 2021. NIDA launched the youth-focused community education event in 2010 to Shatter the Myths® about drug and alcohol use. Participants are invited to plan, host, and promote local educational events. NIDA has created online and PDF resources to help event organizers, including activities, games, quizzes, statistics, booklets, infographics, blog posts, and social media guides. International event organizers have organized in-person and virtual events such as contests, scavenger hunts, and “graffiti walls” on which students can post drug facts. The Drug & Alcohol IQ Challenge is available online or in printed form and updated annually in English and Spanish. The pre- and post-test features of the online version allow users to check their knowledge. Other games include bingo and NDAFW quizzes on the game-based learning platform Kahoot! International participants may translate any NIDA resources into their own languages at no charge from NIDA, but translators are asked to use resources in their entirety, acknowledge that the resource was developed by NIDA, and share a copy of the final translation. In addition to materials, NIDA also provides a newsletter and individualized help for registered organizers to generate ideas, plan and promote events, and connect with scientific experts.
