  • Sept 16, 2020, 8:30am-12:30pm PT - Psychiatry for the Addiction Physician Workshop
    This virtual workshop will address psychiatric diagnosis and treatment interventions relevant to non-psychiatric addiction medicine providers. Among the topics to be covered are approaches to treating anxiety, depression, psychosis and personality disorders in patients with active substance use. Clinical approaches to address depression and anxiety caused or exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic will be covered.
  • Sept 17, 2020 8:30-12:30 PT - Addiction Medicine in Correctional Settings Workshop
    This virtual workshop will address the delivery of addiction medicine treatment within correctional health settings. Presenters will review the structure of correctional health systems with jails and prisons in general and highlight the application of a medication-first (low barrier) approach to providing medications for opioid use disorder to inmates within one California county jail system. The workshop will also review trauma-informed care for patients in correctional settings and discuss implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the delivery of addiction medicine in correctional health settings.
  • Sept 17th, 2020, 1:30-5:30 PT - Comprehensive Primary Care for Patients Who Use Drugs Workshop
    The faculty will present a toolkit suitable for all varieties of primary care providers (adult, pediatric, OB, geriatric) including how to do health care maintenance, monitor for complications, counsel on safer use and how to reduce inherent stigma in clinician language and assumptions. Special aspects of harm reduction during the COVID pandemic will be discussed. This highly interactive virtual workshop will only be offered "live" and is limited to 60 participants.
  • Sept 21st, 2020 8:30am-12:30pm PT - Motivational Interviewing for the Busy Clinician Workshop
    This virtual workshop will review and teach Motivational Interviewing (MI)tools for treating unhealthy alcohol and drug use and promoting behavior change in primary care and other specialties. Emphasis will be on mentored learning in breakout groups, clinical skills acquisition, and practice. All participants will develop continuing learning plans to increase their proficiency. This is a highly interactive, remote workshop and will only be hosted live. Registration is limited to 80.
