The ABCD Study is the largest long-term study of brain development and child and adolescent health in the U.S., enrolling nearly 12,000 youth beginning in 2016 when the youth were 9-10 years old. The goal is to understand how experiences in childhood interact with each other and a child’s changing biology to affect brain development and social, behavioral, academic, health, and other outcomes. As the youth enter adulthood, many health outcomes are just beginning to emerge, so it’s important for us to continue to study their experiences and how they impact development long-term.
