GENERAL INFORMATION

Title of Project:

ONE (1) YEAR PLATINUM EXTENDED WARRANTY RENEWAL, MASTER AGREEMENT @16+ TIER; FV1000MPE BASIC (S/N 8K22039)

Statement of Need and Purpose:

The yearly service contract ensures that the FV1000 MPE Confocal Microscope is maintained in functional order. It is a complex and delicate instrument that requires frequent upkeep by a qualified professional technician.

Background Information and Objective:

RNA Regulation Section (RRS) of the Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics (LGG) mission is to investigate the post-transcriptional mechanisms that regulate gene expression in aging and diseases including neurodegenerative disorders. Confocal immunohistchemical imaging of tissue and cultured cells is employed to investigate the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of cellular functions. These methods are applied to elucidate mechanisms of cellular function in the contexts of normal aging and age-related disorders such as diabetes, obesity, sarcopenia, neurodegeneration, and cancer.  In addition, confocal immunohistchemical imaging analyses are used to evaluate the efficacy of novel pharmacological interventions for the prevention and treatment. The RNA Section is particularly interested in the control of mRNA processing, transport, turnover, and translation by RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs). Confocal imaging of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) are used to detect the location and quantity of mRNA, ncRNA.

Period of Performance:

January 1, 2021-December 31, 2021
