Single-Sole Source Determination
It was found that Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. is the only U.S. company that specializes in making proprietary Siemens interface 4-channel recieve coils for use with a 3T magnet. Therefore, a sole source procurement is desired based on compatibility with existing equipment.
Background/Description of Requirement

Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma Special Purpose Coil #Sk, Sp 4-channel special purpose coil is a no-tune receiver coil designed for examination with small Field-of-Views (MRI Radio Frequency Phased Array Receive Coil, for 3T, 128 MHz).

This acquisition is for two small structure coils.  This combination is specifically built for the newly acquired Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma 3T. It is iPAT compatible and comes with multielement array technology to easily fit with the in-house built custom nonhuman primate holder. Two coils will be placed separately during animal placement for ease of access to experiment related equipment around the head. Electrical and radio frequency connection are immediately compatible with proprietary scanner.

  1. Salient characteristics:
  • 2 row by 2 elements phased array MRI probe 3 T, 128 MHz.
  • Receive only compatible to existing system interface cable.
  • Two separate coils.
  • Each coil must be flexible and form around the subject’s head.
  • The probe must fit into the Siemens 3T custom in-house made animal holding device owned by NIH
  • Vendor must give a one-year product warranty that includes repair and/or replacement for defects in manufacturing.
  • The above criteria represent the Government’s minimum acceptable standards.
  • Installation by the vendor to be completed within three days of delivery.
