While MATLAB was developed by The MathWorks, Inc., the MATLAB software licenses and required toolboxes may be distributed through authorized resellers . The essential characteristics of MATLAB that limit the availability to a sole source are the need to run existing MATLAB codes for solving inverse Laplace transform problems, non-local means filtering and brain image segmentation on a Windows 10 platform. This ability is essential to maintain compatibility with prior research and publications from the MRI Section as well as to make use of similar code written by colleagues elsewhere in NIH and by extramural colleagues.
MATLAB software is required for performing simulations and analysis of data from a variety of NMR and MRI experiments in the MRPAD unit. Specifically, MATLAB will be used to perform 1D and 2D nonlinear least-squares fitting of spin echo train amplitudes, to develop non-local, multispectral filters for image processing and for semi-automatic segmentation of brain images in our research on normal aging and age-associated disease in the central nervous system.
