Rationale/ Salient Characteristics
These 256-channel electrode nets will interact with our existing EEG amplifiers (also from EGI) to record brainwave data. The laptop reading station will be a Mac laptop computer with custom applications for recording and processing EEG data. The Demo Nets will look nearly identical to the electrode nets, but without wires or connectors.
Single-Sole Source Determination
The hardware listed herein is available from only one source, and competition is precluded for the reasons indicated below. There are no substitutes available.

Research was undertaken to find out if any other type of software was available on the open market that would satisfy our needs, and it was determined that the EGI products was unique in capabilities and there were no other competing products that duplicated what it does given our current setup and purposes.

The purchase is sole source because the company creates and maintains both the hardware and software and performs sales only through their company. The product may be resold by other vendors that were not identified by the company or our market research. There is no other competing products given our current setup.

Given our current infrastructure composed mostly of EGI equipment for EEG recordings, only EGI equipment will satisfy our requirement of extending our hardware / software for collecting brainwave EEG data. The company is a direct supplier / seller of their own equipment.

As described in the accompanying market research, we reviewed catalogs, searched the internet by keyword, participated in interactive online communication with other customers, industry, and or acquisition personnel, and contacted knowledgeable individuals in Government and industry regarding market capabilities to meet requirements.

Background/Description of Requirement
The FMRI Core Facility has equipment for collecting EEG and fMRI data both separately as well as simultaneously. The facility has a growing user base of users collecting each of these types of data who are eager to collect more data requiring increased EEG hardware and software resources. We hope with the addition of more demo nets, we will be able to train an increased number of users how to apply the EEG nets, further facilitating the collection of data.
