Single-Sole Source Determination
The essential characteristics of the Leica CM3050 cryostat from Rankin Warehouse that limit the availability to a sole source are this is the only commercially available that the SCCN has gathered much of its data from. Only this suggested source can furnish the system and requirements, to the exclusion of other sources, because as market research has shown Leica is the only commercially available system. Due to critical need for the SCCN to replicate and expand data that can be obtained from the Leica CM3050 via Rankin they for the continuity of science need identical systems meeting the salient characteristics listed below. These characteristics can only be matched by Leica from Rankin Warehouse.

The Leica CM3050 cryostat is only available through Rankin Warehouse as a refurbished unit and in the most reasonable timing. Five other vendors were contacted, but none provide refurbished cryostats or did not carry them at all. Also, the delivery time of other vendors could not be matched.

I hereby determine that the Leica CM3050 available from Rankin Warehouse is the only refurbished unit available that will arrive within next two months.
Background/Description of Requirement
  1. Background Information and Objective:

The objective of this acquisition is to obtain a refurbished Leica CM 3050 S Cryostat. The cryostat is for the precision cutting of a variety of brain tissues, from humans to mouse, to analyse the molecular and chemical architecture of specific regions of the brain in a highly reproducible manner. This piece of equipment is unique in that it allows for a fully automated approach so that each user gets a similar result and the tissue slices created are kept at an optimal temperature throughout. Because SCCN will be working with a lot of nonhuman primate tissue, this takes a significant time to cut, and many sections are generated.  The Leica cryostat is designed in a specific way to handle large volumes and assist the operator. This equipment will be crucial to SCCN’s lab work.
