Statutory Authority: This acquisition is conducted under the authority of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13—Simplified Acquisition Procedures, Subpart 13.106-1 (b) (1), Soliciting from a single source and is not expected to exceed the simplified acquisition threshold. Contracts awarded using FAR Part 13—Simplified Acquisition Procedures and at a dollar value less than the simplified acquisition threshold are exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6—Competition Requirements.

This notice of proposed acquisition is posted as an intent to award a FFP contract on a non-competitive basis to Life Technologies Corporation to purchase Accelerome Sample Kits for the pending purchase of the Accelerome proteomic platform for processing of routine mass spectrometry samples through the Translational Genoproteomic Unit (TGU).
Background/Description of Requirement

This acquisition is being conducted under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13 - Simplified Acquisition Procedures, and FAR Part 12- Acquisition of Commercial Items, and the resultant contract award will include all applicable provisions and clauses in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 2023-05 dated September 7, 2023.

The purpose of this acquisition is to purchase Accelerome Sample Kits for the pending purchase of the Accelerome proteomic platform for processing of routine mass spectrometry samples through the Translational Genoproteomic Unit (TGU).

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Translational Genoproteomic Unit (TGU) is in need of Accelerome sample kits for proteomic analysis of samples. Accelerome is a fully automated platform for processing proteins into acquisition-ready peptide samples for mass spectrometry. The Accelerome is a fully automated platform that removes the need for any manual work from the user during preparations. Sample kits are required to prepare samples on the Accelerome.

TGB performed a pilot study testing this technology in comparison to our standard manual in-solution processing workflow. The Accelerome was more robust, reproducible (reduced variability), faster, and more sensitive than our traditional workflows, resulting in improved identification of proteins, particularly from samples with limited starting protein mass. Moreover, the automated platform reduces variability and increases throughput, two critical requirements for the ongoing biomarkers studies at NIA.

Salient characteristics:

Utilization of the sample kits in combination with the Accelerome eliminates the need for manual sample prep analysis and has pre-built validated methods and kit format reagents available. It also features built-in UV measurement of final peptide concentration prior to LC-MS analysis. The platform supports the use of peptide standards and has reagent kits for both label-free and TMT multiplexing applications available. It is optimized to work with Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass spectrometers.
