Single-Sole Source Determination
After evaluating the available equipment on the market, IMEC is the only commercial entity that supplies a system that meets all of the requirements. The Neuropixels probe is manufactured and sold by only one source.

The essential characteristics of the additional Neuropixels that limit the availability to a sole source are electrodes with 4416 recording sites, 45 mm length, 384 simultaneous channels, 100% compatible with HS_1000 head stage. Only this suggested source can furnish the requirements, to the exclusion of other sources, because this new technology, developed by a consortium of companies and institutions, is fabricated and sold by only one vendor.

The material or service must be compatible in all aspects (form, fit, and function) with existing systems presently installed. The current equipment is Neuropixels 1.0 PXIe acquisition system (PXIe_1000), and the new item/service must coordinate, connect, or interface with the existing system by ZIF ribbon connection to Neuropixels 1.0 head stage (HS_1000).

The new items are "direct replacement" parts / components for existing equipment.
Background/Description of Requirement

The acquisition is to obtain additional electrodes for recording signals within the brains of research animals. The electrodes record from cells and provide information about brain function.
