Rationale/ Salient Characteristics
The Leica VT1200s vibrating blade microtome
- must be available for sectioning fixed and unfixed specimens. The vibrating blade microtome must be with robust and stabile basic instrument with blade holder for safe insertion of the whole razor blade and adjustment screw to minimize the vertical deflection of the blade below 1 μm.
-must be with a separate control panel and adjustable screws for manual feeding prior to each section. ---must be with removable ice tray, double walled buffer tray or optional measurement device "Vibrocheck", for vertical deflection of the blade.
-must be with vertical specimen feed: max. 20 mm.
-must be with blade holder turnable by 90° for safe blade insertion of whole razor-injector or sapphire blades. Clearance angle adjustment of 15°, 18° .
-must be with optimized blade holder design for minimised buffer spillage.
-must be with parameter setting for speed, amplitude, section thickness under semiautomatic mode.
Background/Description of Requirement

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the nation’s leading medical research agency and the primary Federal agency whose mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge. The mission of the NIH also includes enhancing health, lengthening life, reducing illness and disability, conducting, supporting and making medical discoveries that improves and saves people’s health and lives. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) routinely uses a Cryostat to observe the Vibrating blade microtome to enable researchers to observe the different thicknesses and locations of brain slices prepared freshly in multiple electrophysiological experiments in mouse brain slices. This purpose is to study the neuronal synaptic transmission or excitability of target neurons in brain slices. This requirement aims to procure a vibrating blade microtome to enable researchers to observe the different thicknesses and locations of brain slices prepared freshly in multiple electrophysiological experiments. Furthermore, this performance allows the researcher to record the electrophysiological signals from the targeted neurons in wild-type and fluorescent-positive neurons to figure out the neuronal synaptic transmission or excitability of target neurons.

Interested parties may identify in writing their interest and capability in response to this requirement.
