To determine the optimal state to stimulate using TMS, we will be utilizing the bossdevice RESEARCH a real-time digital signal processor consisting of hardware and software algorithms. Sync2Brain and BrainVision have partnered together to produce this real-time EEG system. As we have attained the bossdevice RESEARCH through other channels, we require this part of the system to complete our ability to conduct EEG-triggered TMS. BrainVision is the sole producer of this partenered device and therefore is essential to our research.

Single-Sole Source Determination
Bossdevice RESEARCH is a real-time digital signal processor. It integrates other BrainVision products (e.g., actiCHamp and BrainVision Recorder).
It is designed to read-in a real-time data stream (i.e., EEG) and continuously analyze the data and detect oscillation patterns across frequencies
It works extremely smooth in combination with the TurboLink amplifier and recorder (already purchased).
To determine the optimal state to stimulate using TMS, we will be utilizing the bossdevice RESEARCH a real-time digital signal processor consisting of hardware and software algorithms. Sync2Brain and BrainVision have partnered together to produce this real-time EEG system. This part of the system is integral to our ability to conduct the study.
Background/Description of Requirement

The mission of the NIMH Noninvasive Neuromodulation Unit is to promote the development and refinement of new and existing non-invasive neuromodulation technologies with the goal of furthering the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), magnetic seizure therapy (MST), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), deep brain stimulation (DBS), and other devices.

bossdevice RESEARCH is needed to support the protocols entitled, “Influence on placticity of brain temperature” (15-M-0066) which have been reviewed and approved by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) committee for the Scientific Review of Protocols (CSRP) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) Institutional Review Board (IRB).  While brain stimulation techniques have proven invaluable tools in neuroscientific research and treatment of psychiatric disorders, we do not fully understand the impact of brain oscillations and state on outcome response. This gap in our knowledge may be reflected in noted response variability. The EEG-triggered TMS system will endeavor to optimize TMS and reduce response variability by delivering TMS pulses during optimal phases of ongoing neural oscillations with millisecond accuracy. As such, the bossdevice RESEARCH is utilized in conjunction with the EEG-signal amplifier and recording device within the EEG-triggered TMS system in protocol 15-M-0066.
