Background/Description of Requirement

Current approaches to investigations of brain circuits and systems require detailed analyses of neuronal circuit dynamics at cellular or greater resolution across multiple brain regions. The nVue 2.0 Dual Color Miniscope Imaging system allows the simultaneous detection the of two independent fluorophores. The nVue 2.0 system provides an innovative solution for the investigation of inter-regional functional connectivity, functional cell type mapping and microcircuit functioning, all in the brain of freely behaving animals.  The unique system will greatly enhance the NIMH mission statement. Additionally, this system is solely obtainable via Inscopix. Due to the importance of this system the UNAM needs a dedicated system within their own lab to continue their research unabated.  The system must match existing system due to data sets already obtained and for continuity and reproducibility of existing and future experiments.

The essential characteristics of the nVue 2.0 System from Inscopix that limit the availability to a sole source are this is the only commercially available thru upgrade to the fully integrated implantable microscope into small rodent’s brain with combined optogenetics capabilities usable in free ranging test animals with complete hardware and software components. Only this suggested source can furnish the upgrades and requirements, to the exclusion of other sources, because as market research has shown Inscopix is the only commercially available system.  Additionally, Inscopix products have been awarded based on Sole Source Justification in previous attached awards to Dr. Penzo The upgrades meet all the technical requirements as listed in the product description salient requirements as reproduced below.
