From May 17 to 19, 2021, the Helping to End Addiction Long-termSM Initiative, or NIH HEAL InitiativeSM, is bringing together the initiative’s investigators from around the country, federal officials, people with lived experience, and other stakeholders to share details about research progress to address the crises of pain management, opioid misuse, addiction, and overdose, and the ways the research community is collaborating to advance the goals of the initiative.
Many meeting sessions are open to the public and will be videocast. Highlights include:
- NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy will discuss emotional well-being and the power of connections to fight the opioid epidemic.
- NIH HEAL Initiative Director Dr. Rebecca Baker will provide an overview of the initiative’s accomplishments to date.
- HEAL Initiative investigators, patient advocates, and NIH Institute and Center Directors will facilitate discussions around engaging communities and people with lived experience in the research process, advancing health equity and inclusion and responding to the collision of the COVID-19, pain, and opioid public health crises.
