Patients who report no past 12 months use of illegal or recreational drugs not otherwise included in this tool (for example: ecstasy, Molly, GHB, poppers, LSD, mushrooms, special K, bath salts, synthetic marijuana ("spice"), whip its, etc.) are currently at minimal risk for adverse outcomes associated with their use.
Note: Those who report the use of such drugs in previous years but have not used in the past 12 months are at risk for relapse.
The suggested action for this risk level is to deliver a prevention message to continue abstinence. This is especially relevant for young adults and patients with medication conditions that may be worsened by such drug use.
- For those who have never used the illegal or recreational drugs not otherwise included in this tool, reinforce abstinence.
- For those who report use of such drugs in the previous years, give positive reinforcement to maintain abstinence for overall health benefits.
-
Personalize the prevention message as much as possible.
- For example: support recent abstinence and identify the use of such drugs on medical and mental health conditions.
