Childhood traumas, especially sexual abuse and rape, are very frequently reported. Psychiatric research aims to understand the impact of these events on the risk of psychiatric disorders in adulthood the purpose of this work is to determine frequency and association between substance use disorders and childhood trauma among inmates
Methods: This was a descriptive and comparative cross-sectional survey of 30 inmates who attended Outpatient and Emergency Department in the Razi Hospital for their first psychiatric consultation or for a control visit and who accepted to take part in the survey and to answer the questions with a written consent.
Result: Almost all of our sample were smokers (97%, n=29). More than half (53%, n=16) regularly used psychoactive substances. The substances were alcohol and cannabis, followed by benzodiazepines, antiparkinsonian drugs and amphetamines A history of substance use was frequently found in people with childhood abuse with a p close to the significance level, p=0.057.
Conclusion: People who have a drug or alcohol problem usually have other problems that have their roots in childhood imprisonment can provide a unique opportunity to detect trauma and abuse in an often marginalized population with limited contact with health systems. care systems
