Evgeny Krupitsky served as principal investigator for a multi-center Phase 3 clinical trial demonstrating that the alcohol abuse medication Vivitrol is an effective treatment for opioid dependence. Dr. Krupitsky’s work has helped identify the first non-narcotic, non-addictive, long-acting opioid dependence medication, providing a proven opioid pharmacotherapy option for residents of countries that ban other treatment medications. Throughout his career, Dr. Krupitsky has demonstrated an exceptional ability to translate basic science concepts into evidence-based drug policies and treatments. Working with colleagues in Russia and the United States, Dr. Krupitsky conducted the initial clinical epidemiological research on the prevalence of AIDS and its relationship to injection drug use in St. Petersburg, and then translated those findings into improved addiction policies and clinical practices in the region.
