Additional Information

To honor Native American Heritage Month, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institutes of Health’s Tribal Health Research Office (THRO) are hosting a documentary screening produced in part through the NIDA-funded research collaboration, Native Transformation Project. The film looks at the historical strengths and resilience of Coast Salish people through four intimate portraits of tribal members’ journey of healing and wellness to overcome the impacts of the opioid crisis. The event will begin with opening remarks from the Director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Monica M. Bertagnolli. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with community members who appear in the documentary, led by NIDA’s Director, Dr. Nora Volkow, and THRO’s Director, Dr. Karina Walters, on the implications of the documentary for American Indian and Alaska Native related substance use research.
