Join the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Program for the 2025 NIDA International Forum, which will be held June 13–14, 2025, at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
The Forum research symposium, poster session, and network-building activities focus on the range and quality of drug use and addiction research conducted around the world. Participants meet talented colleagues and learn about drug use and addiction research and policy issues in other countries, as well as the NIDA-supported fellowships and other programs that can support international collaborations. There is no fee to attend the NIDA International Forum.

Research Poster Abstract Submission and Travel Award Requests

The NIDA International Program invites abstract submissions and travel award applications from researchers around the world. Join us for the in-person Forum research symposium, interactive workshops, poster session, and networking activities.
Abstract Submission
Scientific research poster abstract submissions are now being accepted. Abstract submissions should:
- Be a topic relevant to NIDA International Research Priorities.
- Focus on international research, either conducted entirely in another country or by a multinational team working in another country.
- Include a concise statement of research and be structured in four labeled parts: 1) Background, 2) Methods, 3) Results, and 4) Conclusion.
- Not exceed 250 words.
- Be categorized with one of the following research topic areas:
- Basic Science – Includes fields such as biochemistry, behavioral and biomedical neuroscience, microbiology, physiology, or pharmacology; laboratory studies with cell cultures, animals, or physiological experiments; genetic studies; and imaging studies.
- Epidemiology – Studies that identify or examine the impact of individual, familial, behavioral, developmental, or socio-cultural/environmental risk and protective factors related to substance use and addiction.
- Prevention – Studies that explore the development, testing, and translation of prevention interventions that target the initiation of drug use, progression to misuse and dependence, and transmission of HIV infection among diverse populations and settings.
- Treatment – Studies on the development, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral, pharmacological, or integrated treatment interventions, including outcome and performance measures and treatment interventions targeted to under-resourced populations.
- Informational – Reports on capacity-building programs, educational opportunities, international guidelines for collaboration, and drug policy development.
- Abstracts that focus ONLY on alcohol will NOT be accepted.
Travel Award Request
Travel awards will be announced with abstract selections, and amounts will be confirmed within the selection notices. A participant will be considered for a travel award if they completed the travel award question during the abstract submission process.
To be eligible for a NIDA International Forum Travel Award, applicants must:
- Submit and have accepted an abstract for poster presentation at the NIDA International Research Poster Session/CPDD Workshop.
- Be the primary/first author of the submitted abstract.
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than the United States.
- Participate in the full in-person NIDA International Forum (June 13 and 14, 2025).
When travel award selections are made, priority will be given to a primary/first author who:
- Has never received a NIDA International Forum Travel Award.
- Submits an abstract on a topic relevant to the NIDA international research priorities.
- Has not received travel support from the NIDA International Program between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
Important Note: Travel awards may not be transferred or deferred.

Traveling to the United States
Most foreign nationals traveling to the United States need to obtain a visa unless they qualify for entry under the Visa Waiver Program. The results of the visa wizard do not guarantee eligibility for a visa. The consular officer at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you apply will determine your visa eligibility.
You should be certain of your eligibility for a visa BEFORE you make your travel reservations.

The NIDA International Program will not issue letters of invitation and will not communicate with an embassy or consulate on behalf of any individual.
