The Columbia University Research Center for JJ-TRIALS brings together several research/academic partners. The Center for the Promotion of Mental Health in Juvenile Justice (CPMHJJ) provides expert guidance to juvenile justice agencies regarding implementing evidence-based practices for both mental health and substance use assessment. The Center has developed and evaluated innovative protocols promoting linkage across juvenile justice and behavioral health service sectors. Dr. Gail Wasserman (PI), is the founding director of CPMHJJ, and Dr. Larkin McReynolds (Co-I) is the Center’s Research Director. The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) is one of the nation’s premier organizations dedicated to improving access to and quality of addiction education, prevention, and treatment services. Dr. Jon Morgenstern (Co-I) is a Vice President and Director of Health and Treatment Research and Analysis at CASA, and Dr. Aaron Hogue (Co-I) is Associate Director of Health and Treatment Research at CASA. Columbia’s HIV Center is a national and international leader in HIV/AIDS research. Dr. Katherine Elkington (Co-I) work focuses on developing and piloting family-based HIV/STI prevention interventions for youth in juvenile probation. The Center for Practice Innovations (Director Dr. Lisa Dixon; Co-I) supports the promotion of the availability of EBPs to improve outcomes for people with co-occurring disorders. Support is provided at multiple levels by NYS child-serving agencies. Chief among these is our juvenile justice partner, the NYS Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives [OPCA] and county-based affiliates. Further support and integration at the state level is provided by the NYS Offices of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services [OASAS] and Mental Health [OMH].
