Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG)

National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS)

From 1976 to 2014, NIDA supported the Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG), a network of local drug abuse experts who reported semiannually on drug trends and emerging issues in sentinel sites including major metropolitan areas and some states around the United States.  The CEWG is no longer active but CEWG reports are available on this site.  The final CEWG reports are from June, 2014.  In August, 2014, the National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS) was established.  NDEWS will continue to monitor drug trends in many of the same sentinel sites as the CEWG using many of the national and local data sources that have been utilized by the CEWG however NDEWS will also report on drug trends across the U.S. as new issues emerge.  NDEWS Sentinel Site profiles describing drug abuse trends and emerging issues will be available starting in the summer of 2015.  For questions, please contact Dr. Marsha Lopez.  To contact NDEWS: Erin Artigiani
