Financial Management Branch (FMB)

What We Do:

The Financial Management Branch aims to provide good stewardship and appropriate accountability in all financial transactions while overseeing and managing the more than $1 billion annual Congressional appropriation to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The FMB performs the following functions:

  • Manages the program planning process for resource allocation and monitory to support policy development
  • Formulates and coordinates the planning and execution of the Institute’s budget;
  • Participates in Congressional, Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and departmental hearings
  • Advises Institute staff in preparing budget estimates and justifications
  • Coordinates the development and operation of data systems for use in maintaining administrative and programmatic information about Institute research, training, and management activities
  • Coordinates the development and preparation of reports on research activities and accomplishments for use by NIDA staff and managers
  • Coordinates the development and preparation of quantitative information on Institute research and training activities prepared in response to inquiries by PHS, HHS, OMB, Congress, outside organizations, and the general public.
